John Dunegan

About

John is a veteran teacher with over 20 years experience in the classroom. He is also a restorative practices facilitator with nearly 10 years experience since receiving his initial RJ training from the Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution at Bethel College (KS) in May of 2015.

Since then, John helped start the first restorative justice program for a NE Kansas school district. That program ran for 3 years and saw fights, suspensions, and office referrals all reduced by half to two-thirds. New district leadership cut the program despite the promising results.

John has twice been recognized for his restorative practice work, receiving the Educatior Peacebuilder award from the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice in 2016, and the
Heartland Mediator’s Association Scholastic Award recognizing school-based restorative justice programs in 2020.

John is currently residing in Phoenix, AZ and is connected with Northern Arizona Restorative Justice (NARJ).
